David, aka “Knife Life,” is known for his bold, full-color neo-traditional tattoos. For him, tattooing is more than just a job—it’s about connecting with people and sharing their stories. Every tattoo is a chance to create meaningful art and a lasting experience with his clients
BACKGROUND
David is a first-generation immigrant whose family moved from Vietnam to Sweden in search of freedom & a better life.
He kicked off his career in design, becoming the lead UX Designer for Bethard. But while he was immersed in the digital world, his friends back in Vietnam were already making waves in the tattoo scene, launching The Hangout Studios in 2018.
In 2019, craving something more vibrant and expressive, David decided to leave the corporate grind behind and dive into the art of tattooing. He saw it as a leap of faith—an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. While he had already started tattooing friends in Sweden, relocating to Vietnam opened up a whole new level of artistry and inspiration.
David’s work reflects that spirit—a fusion of culture, creativity, and individuality that resonates deeply with each client.
THE HANGOUT STUDIOS
A self-taught artist, David began his tattooing journey at The Hangout Studio in 2019, fueled by a passion for honing his craft and telling stories through his art. Moving to Vietnam was a life-changing decision, allowing him to reconnect with his roots while immersing himself in the dynamic and ever-evolving Vietnamese tattoo industry.
The vibrant tattoo scene in Vietnam captivated him, offering a rich environment of tradition and innovation. Surrounded by talented artists, he found inspiration in their creativity and pushed his own boundaries. Each tattoo became a collaboration, merging his vision with the stories of his clients.
In 2022, David became co-owner of The Hangout Studio, further solidifying his commitment to this artistic community and fostering connections that continue to inspire his work.
FUTURE PLANS…
As he looks ahead to 2025, David feels excited about the new opportunities awaiting him in around the globe and beyond. He’s eager to immerse himself in different cultures and draw inspiration from diverse stories.
As of now, David is working with @nhatbe one of Vietnams masters in blackwork tattooing at @thealchemisttattoo located in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.
